Wurzburg Saturday 6 September
Awoke to a very misty morning and quite cool so first day I've needed to wear a wind cheater although the forecast is for 25 so once the sun comes out, the fog will lift and we are in for another lovely day.
After breakfast we are coached to the baroque Palace to look around. The chapel was magnificent and is still used for services, weddings, etc. Not planning on getting married any time soon but it would be a spectacular setting for a wedding!
We then walk through the beautiful Court gardens.
We then walked through Wurzburg, getting a taste of the eclectic city that was bustling.
Our guided tour ended up at the bridge, and we then wandered back along the river side to our boat.
Time for lunch and then we are off again on an optional tour to Rothenburg which is about a 1 1/2 hour drive. Such a delightful medieval walled town which is located on the Romantic Road in Franconia. We were in for an extra treat, as there was a festival being held today to lots of charactersin medieval garb. Lots of music marching, singing and layer cannons being fired!
Plenty of time to wander around and most aimed for the Christmas shop but I found it very claustrophobic so didn't spend much time in there at all. Julie was in 7th heaven! She also enjoyed a snowball, which is a local fare, but it wasn't at all like our marshmallow ones and she thought it was a bit dry.
Finally it was time to all meet up and head back to the coaches. While I was waiting for Julie in the Christmas shop, I sat on a bench and was soon joined by a woman from the UK (near Bath). I got her life history (she's Fran, married to Richard. They have 2 kids. 1 is married with 3 sons who are all doing really well, but the other son is married to a woman who is a barrister and it is all about money. They have 2 kids. He is an accountant and had recently gone party time so he can be home more with the second child who is on the spectrum!) Phew... there are lot more to the story but my brain was anyway hiding with her telling me all this, so my brain will hurt even more of I attempt to retell all of it. Anyway, Richard saved the day by repeayedly telling me how lovely my curly hair was... Bless him! Thank goodness it was now time to join the group.
Quite a hike to get back on the coaches, but we all managed it and then our long drive back to the boat. Julie bought herself a wine for the drive back and took great pleasure in downing the lot.
Back on the boat and we set off for our next adventure. Dinner was pleasant, but the music trivia game afterwards was a pain. Time for bed after a 6.5km walking day. Another top day on the river Main.
