Porto Tuesday 16 September
Good morning Porto. Best night's sleep I've had for a while. awoke to lovely sunshine and forecast of 27 degrees.
We opted to have breakfast in our hotel room, having bought yoghurt yesterday at the supermarket. We pre bought tickets for the Gray line sightseeing bus which conveniently has a stop just metres from the hotel. So, we head for the bus expecting a 9.30 start. It was a bit chaotic in the street as there are lots of buses stopping here plus trams and cars amongst all the pedestrians. There is an amazing cafe right near the stop. We will certainly be coming back here.
Anyway we get on our bus and have chosen to do the orange line which will take about an hour.
It was fabulous! We have both taken so many photos that it is too hard to pick the best amongst them. Here's a taste tempter.
I can't get over the construction work going on everywhere. It is like they are cutting into every hill and building multi storey complexes. And then we see rows of multi storey houses that are left derelict. The housing styles are so varied. Not as many tiled frontages as I expected though.
We finish our Orange circuit and head for the cafe for coffee and a Portuguese tart.
Time to get on our next coach for the blue line which will be about 2 hours of sight seeing. Traffic is horrendous and there are often long periods of going nowhere. The roads can be very maps so hard off to our couch driver. Very different scenes on this tour. I am really fall in love with Porto.
We have now been bus sightseeing for 4 hours and decide to have a rest so head to a nearby mini market and get something for our lunch to have back in our hotel. We head to the hotel rooftop for lovely views across the city.
Leisurely lunch and finish off our bottle of wine. Time to catch up on the blog and then we hit the streets again for some souvenir shopping and to get something for our dinner. The main street is heaving with people once again.
The Majestic cafe is apparently quite famous and certainly very popular. Julie is for chicken pieces for her dinner and I choose a big pizza square oh and plus another bottle of wine! At 1.99 Euro what's not to like?
Dinner back in our hotel room, watch some TV and then it's lights out. We have another big sightseeing day tomorrow.
