Nuremberg Monday 9 September

Another fine day ahead as we arrive at Nuremberg. After breakfast we head out on couches and do s bit of a city tour. First stop was the rally centre where Hitler would hold propaganda rallies. It was the size of about 7 soccer stadiums. A lot has been removed or repurposed. They even hold music festivals and fairs in the main arena.
There were 34 towers surrounding the area. As much as Nuremberg, and Germany for that fact, don't celebrate the war, they are mindful of their history and instead of use all the nazi buildings and locations as reminders of what not to do. All war symbols on buildingshave been removed. Display of the nazi flag or goose stepping is actually against the law so there are no obvious neo nazis to be found here. We then drive around until we get to the old walked city. There are some lovely heritage listed buildings alongthe way, but also many more dog box multi story apartments.
The castle had no moat but was well fortified.
We then wandered down into the Main square. We had an hour to ourselves so headed to the gingerbread shop and then had a coffee. I was asked if I wanted small or large and oh boy did I get a large cup!
Time to get back to the coach and then to the boat where we head off again through the locks. Lunch was a fairly quiet affair apart from coughing, as there are now a number of passengers who are unwell. I just wish they would stay in their cabins until they are no longer coughing up a lung. We now have the rest of the day motoring along so lots of greenery on the banks. very soothing and restful.
