After what was not only a much needed sleep but a good one, down to breakfast which was very nice. As per my usual, I don't go the restaurant without my Vegemite, so that's exactly what I did. Then on the bus at 8 a.m. and off to see the BMW factories, and buildings, the main head office area is actually heritage lsfted as it is such a unique shaped building. The weather is fine but a low fog that makes the skies all a bit grey. As we say goodbye to Munich we pass the huge stadium built for the 1972 Olympics - and again here the story of the siege and murder of the Israeli members. Not really a history that you would ideally want your country's Olympics Games to be remembered by. Then we go into Regensburg which really is a delightful gem of a place , very medieval in its feel. A fabulous old gothic style church and lots of narrow lanes and alleys to wander over the cobblestone roads. Marianne had again asked if I was happy to wander around with her in our free time, and I was. She had bought a couple of pretzels earlier that morning so we sat on a bench and had those for our early lunch. While we were chatting she told me that she belonged to the German Club in Adelaide so asked her if she knew a woman called Elke who I used to work with, well bless her, Marianne started crying as she had been a great friend of Elke's and still very much misses her, so how's that for a truly small world. You travel half way around the world and by sheer luck meet someone who otherwise is a total stranger but turns out to know a mutual friend.. Talk about 2 degrees of separation. Anyway, we have a lovely wander around the place and then back on the coach with the sun now shining brightly and the day well and truly warming up.
We've now crossed into the Czech Republic - cant really say that the countryside looks much different to Bavaria. We see Pilsen in the distance and lots of hops being grown. a rest stop along the way and then into Prgaue. We've had to decide on what optional tours we want to do on the tour, and like most others on the tour, we have no idea what we are really going to want to see and do, so in the end I ticked most boxes and will now just rely on Lara reminding me which ones I've paid for!
AT our hotel, it turns out that Marianne and I are now to share a room, so that's what we are doing. Would have loved a room to myself, but I think we'll rub along together okay. She hasn't been introduced to the 'Princess club" as yet as it is way too early to determine whether she really has all the right stuff, but I won't write her off just yet either!
Am out to dinner tonight at a castle so I will have to see whether it meets my exacting standards of a royal house!!!
Just keep maintaining the standards of princess club...
