Flight to Dubai

At long last, or perhaps make that very very very long last we have arrived in Dubai, but not without hiccups. We boarded out QF1 flight easily enough, only to find that we were seated next to each other in a side row of 3 when we were so sure we both had aisle seats opposite each other. A lady was already seated in the window seat. I was not a happy little Vegemite at the thought of such a long haul squashed in a middle seat, I can tell you. I saw that the middle aisle seat in front of us was vacant so asked if I could move to that. The flight attendant initially said I could, but only after take off if no one else sat in it, but then a few minutes later came back and told me I could move now, which I very rapidly did. Turned out that I was able to spill over into the next spare seat as well, so things were starting to look up, that was until the announcement that there were problems securing the cargo doors which ended up delaying our departure almost 2 hours. oh dear.....
So 16 1/2 hours later we arrived to a balmy 32 degrees in Dubai. Qantas really need to lift their game though. Poor movie choices-hadn't even heard of any of their new releases and food very average. Not sure who thought up the idea to offer hotdogs as a snack 10 hours into the flight!!!!! Anyway, after very little sleep and only 1 toddler who has a very good set of lungs which he tested out a number of times during the flight, we arrived, found our way via train to Customs and baggage collection and then a quick visit to duty free for alcohol shopping (keep in mind that it is Ramadan so no public alcohol stores open) and then on into the Arrivals hall where we were met by our shuttle company rep. with only a few minutes wait until our driver escorted us to the car and drove us the few minutes drive to our hotel. Unsurprisnlgy we were the only ones booking in at that hour. Our man at reception decided we must have looked a lot better than we felt or were in dire need of something nice, and upgraded our studio room to a deluxe one. I promptly told him that he was my new best friend! Did have a mini 'OMG' moment though when he told us that our room had a lovely big king size bed for us. With visions of a 'Mr and Mrs Lowe' déjà vu experience, I told him that we were good friends but not that good, so a hasty change to twin beds! Our room is on the 37th floor, spectacular views of I'm not quite sure what yet and quite speccy with much opulence. However no time or real interest in appreciating it at that hour, so a hot cuppa and bed was all we had any energy left for.  3.30 am Dubai time and I was shattered, (Adelaide is 5 1/2 hours ahead) having been up for about 28 hours.
That then brings us to the close of our first day's journey. Wonder what our first full day in Dubai holds?
