New Year's Eve.
A good night's sleep and lazy morning with a late breakfast. After breakfast we decide to head out for a walk and first stop is Legoland, in the hope I could find a kit for a young man back home. No luck. So not wandering and into K11 shopping mall. The place is huge with no easy access to any of the floors. It really was like a maze of mainly high end shops so we didn't even bother going into any of them, however we did find our way to a couple of different garden areas on different levels.
Some lovely views from different levels too. Trying to access the lifts that don't stop at all floors was troubling. Eventually we saw someone push a button in what everyone thought was a book display!
Once we finally made our way outside we venture along the walk of stars, but it was very crowded so I have up after seeing only a handful of the plaques for various actors.
We then headed up Nathan Rd and ventured into Kowloon Park where we spent the next couple of hours wandering around and getting lost or at least a bit misplaced as the maps were not at all helpful or accurate.
Time to head back towards the hotel amongst all the crowds. Julie wants to have Peking Duck so we locate a restaurant serving it and she orders takeaway to have back in our hotel room. I'm happy to have a cuppa and snack as it is now 3pm and I figure too late for lunch but too early for dinner. We have booked the Symphony of Lights cruise for later this evening.
After a treat in our room we head to the middle row bar (again) and as w are the only ones there we have the room to ourselves! It is only when we go to pay that we realise they aren't offering happy hours on new years eve! Oh well, you only live once.
A quick change into something warmer and then we head to the clock tower and Pier 3 for our cruise. It is a full moon and perfect weather. We sit at the back of our boat and have a fabulous mini cruise. The lights are amazing. Julie offers to buy us a wine each but when it comes to paying and they want cash only, guess who pays? LOL!
We met a lovely woman from Miami who is a project manager on Celebrity ships, about to get on one of the ships that is being refurbished. Also met an English couple who told us they are about to get on the same Celebrity ship! What a small world.
After the cruise we head back to our hotel for a cuppa and to watch the Sydney fireworks. There are no fireworks here in Hong Kong tonight as they have been cancelled in respect for all the lives lost in the recent apartment block fires. It's a bit disappointing but understandable. A quick trip to a nearby supermarket and purchase of some chippies. It has been another big day and we've walked more than 6km uphill and down dale.
It gets to 10.30 here in HK which means it is midnight in Adelaide so that is a wrap for 2025 as far as I'm concerned.
Happy New Year!
