Cruising to New Zealand
Hopefully you've all taken your motion sickness pills like me. We are now aboard the Diamond Princess and after watching the safety briefing and found our muster station we finally found out way to the buffet for a light late lunch. Have already decided that there are a lot of wombles on board but it is really days and we have yet to locate a bar...
Something wasn't right with our booking as it wasn't showing that we have pre paid for a wifi and drinks so after a very lengthy wait we were able to get it sorted and then head for the nearest bar.
the medallions that we have to have with us at all times is the size of a 20 cent piece. We are asked which room number we were in when we each ordered or drinks so thought we would have to do that each time, but as we ordered different drinks at different prices, had noidea how this was going to work. Anyway, after our drink we headed back to the cabin but only Julie's luggage had arrived. I thought I'd give ordering drinks on the medallion app a go so placed and order for 1.5 litre bottle of water as there is no complimentary bottles in the cabin. A short time later we get a call in the cabin that our drinks package doesn't cover large bottles of water but we can have small bottles so I get 4 smaller bottles delivered! Clearly Princess is a money making venture at every turn and they don't care about the waste of plastic bottles.
Anyway, my luggage finally arrived but we are off to find another bar so imposing can wait. We are both impressed with the amount of storage space which si good thing as we both have so many clothes! We finally find the Wheelhouse bar where there is meant to be a single and solos catch up. We thought there might be similar travellers like us but it was a fizzer. That being the case we went to the bar to order drinks. Not impressed that the bar man kept serving members before us, but Julie energising was able to offer her drink. She went to gibe her cabin number but was told not necessary as the computer had registered her medallion and was automatically adding the drink to her account. Her photo came up on the screen to confirm it was her. I ordered my drink and assumed the same would happen.
When we ordered the next drink, both drinks were added to my amount and when I told the waiter he just shrugged his shoulders and said yes! I'm sure it will all get sorted but not a big fan of the medallion so far.
We had pre booked dinner in the International dining room for 7.50 so after a marathon trek around the adjoining we finally found out. We were asked by the maitre D if we world like to dine there every night as they could see that we had pre booked other dining rooms but we said that as it was our first night we would try it out and compare with the others. We had booked a table for 2 but were shown to a table for 6, where we pretended that there were other petiole there or otherwise it looked like we had no friends!
The meal was lovely so that made up for not being seated at any of the vacant 2 person tables!
After dinner it was back to our cabin and time to relax. As we didn't have anything planned for the next morning we decided to give room service for breakfast a go so placed our order on the door handle and hoped for the best. Lights out and off to the land of nod. We are officially on our cruise to New Zealand, via Melbourne.
