Sibenik, Krka National park

We depart Zadar about 7.30 this morning. After breakfast it is a very leisurely morning admiring the changing coastline, watching all the sail boats and we even had a couple of dolphns breach across the bow of the ship. Perfect weather.
As we head towards Sibenik, Nora offers a music quiz for anyone interested. Julie and I go along, only to find ourselves seated with Spesh (from Perth, who thinks she isvery special) and her husband Fw (you only get one guess what F W stands for). Talk about competitive. The NZ couple join us and then later another Perth fellow (who gave us the Croatian rocket fuel to drink last night) make up our team. There are only 3 tables and we came last! Apparently my suggestion of who was the third of the 3 Tenors after Pavarotti and Domingo wasn't right. Could have sworn it was Dean Martin. LOL! Thankfully we were nearing Sibenik, so Spesh could be distracted from looking like thunder! As we came into port we passed coastline that concealed caves that were used during the war to hide German submarines, nick named Hitler's eye.
It is certainly a pretty port to sail into. We have lunch on board and then at 2.30 all board a coach to take us to Krka national park to see the dramatic waterfalls this area is famous for. It is only a half hour ride and our guide Mariana takes us along the wooden boardwalks and bridges at Skradinski Buk. It is an absolutely beautiful pool with high waterfalls at one end and lots of cascades at the other. I took so many photos and each one of them couldn't help but be postcard material.
The mill isn't in use these days, but it was odd in that rather than the wheel at the side of the mill, it was flat and under the mill.
As we continue our walk down to the bottom of the falls, I am on the lookout for irises which are Croatia's national flower. Clearly not quite the right time for them as I only saw one poor yellow specimen. There were frogs a plenty and pretty damsel flies which looked like dragon flies with vibrant deep blue wings.
And at the end of 100 steps we were finally at the bottom of the falls. Breathtaking!
And then it was time to climb 200 steps back up to our coach! The scenery continued to take my breath away on the return trip to the ship.
Dinner is a Croatian barbecue. Certainly not what would pass as a bbq at home, but was definitely filling. The hot dog sausage thing was spicy but not keen on the 'plastic' casing. They have chevapchichi which is similar to at home, and no one thought to tell them that chips aren't a usual bbq side dish. Dessert was icecream. Had a lovely night sitting with NZ and sorting the world to right.

  1. Hi Karen, sounds like you are having a great time despite hoards of tourists everywhere getting in the way, it does spoil trips, but you're meeting some interesting and not so interesting fellow travellers. Looking forward to hearing about the Yorkshire wombles. Linda

    1. Billy only has about 2 1/2 teeth and Sheila has a bowl haircut and consistently wears short, short sets that weren’t fashionable in the 70s. Just because they made them in her size does not mean it is a good look! The accents are straight out of a comedy.

  2. Stunning pictures of the day. Agreed they could be postcards, if only generations beyond boomers used them.
......or maybe even know what they are.🤣
